A Different Sunrise
Quit a change from yesterday!
When we came out of the house, everything smelled like smoke from the controlled burn north of town, and the sky was dark, the air felt thick. It was cold. By the time we got to the ocean, the smoke smell was replaced by the scent of bacon drifting over the trail from the little restaurant in the park. There was a sliver of light way at the edge of the horizon, just a glimmer. No smoke, just bacon frying and a thin shining line far far away.
I turned once, to keep an eye on that light, and there was the heron, making sure all was well.
