Planting Garlic

We had fun this morning planting out the garlic bed. Our helper has a passion for growing garlic and brought over many new varieties for us to try. I didn’t realize there were so many kinds, with wonderful names and pedigrees. Island Star comes from the San Juan Islands; Red Toch originated in the Republic of Georgia; Thai Purple is from Bangkok. We used some of our own seed from last year as well—I just call it Rigg Street, but I think it’s Early Italian. Harvest won’t be til somewhere around the 4th of July, so I’ve got a long wait before I can do a taste test.
