Brutalist

In Canberra today, I visited the National Gallery of Australia - ie, the national art museum. The photo is of a small corner of the building. Canberra has a lot of these slab-sided concrete buildings. This one was built in the 1970s and opened in 1982. Wikipedia describes it as late 20th-century Brutalist style .... characterised by angular masses and raw concrete surfaces.

I mainly visited to view an exhibition of artworks by Cressida Campbell. She is an Australian artist I'd not come across before. I greatly enjoyed the exhibition. Especially many works featuring plants, such as the extra entitled Banksias, described as incised woodblock, painted in watercolour.
