Plaka Athens

Athens is of course full of history and ancient monuments, some in ruins, some being restored.

The most impressive of these the Parthenon at the top of the Acropolis is undergoing restoration and the photos look more like an advertisment for a scaffolding company than dreamy shots of a bygone age.

Walking up to the Acropolis from the centre of Athens we took a route through the Plaka district which in one part was these tiny streets lined with plants and flowers and beautifully maintained houses with white painted walls. Probably previous versions of these homes were already there when the Parthenon was being built.
