Surprise garlic harvest
I planted quite a lot of garlic bulbs last year, including some I brought back from the Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, where I spent Christmas last year.
I can't remember what cultivar this was (or even whether it's softneck or hardneck) but I know that it didn't thrive in the hot weather, and I couldn't dig it out of the soil at harvest time and then just forgot about it!
Now the soil's fairly moist, each clove has started sending new shoots.
I like how gardening teaches me how to define success. This isn't what you'd expect homegrown garlic to look like. BUT I'm getting a lot of usable healthy cloves out of each single clove that I put in the ground, I won't need to peel them and they smell very garlicky. I'd say that's a pretty good result!
