Museo de Bellas Artes, Seville

We were shown round Seville today by an art historian, Xavier Bray, who organised the Spanish art exhibition at the National Gallery a few years ago. There's nothing he doesn't know about Spanish art. We saw Velazquez, Goyas, Murillos, Zurbarans ... mainly in the churches they were painted for, but also here in the museum. It used to be a monastery and still has these wonderful cloisters.
This evening we had a concert in an ornate Baroque church, which was interrupted by a religious procession - a crucifixion on a float carried by the faithful accompanied by a raucous band, lots of drums and a large crowd. As the soprano said to the audience: "Welcome to Spain"!
