Day 3 in the hospital

This is a late posting.

I had a good night’s sleep, a lovely hot shower and breakfast, and it was time to head back to the hospital.  MrMacD dropped me off and did a spot of shopping on the way home before hopping on a bus back to the hospital - much easier than worrying about where to park the car.

Mum has finally been moved to the Stroke Ward and we were very keen to talk to the doctor after he’d examined her.  She has made very good progress overnight and is quite bright and alert, although still sleeping a lot.  The doctor said that she has definitely improved compared to yesterday, but it’s early days yet and he’ll talk to us again on Monday, when we can review how things have gone over the next three days.  We might, then, have some indication of what the future might hold.

Sister and brother left after talking to the doctor, to go home, shower and get some proper sleep.  MrMacD and I were left in charge until they return this evening.  A lovely speech therapist came along to assess Mum.  Speech therapist is something of a misnomer I think.  What Abby was actually doing was assessing if Mum could cough and swallow.  She was very thorough and managed to get Mum to swallow several half teaspoons of water and some half teaspoons of a fruit purée.  Progress.  Then I had to learn how to give Mum the water, and I’ll have to also teach my sister and brother when they return.

The staff are absolutely brilliant - always, kind, caring and helpful.

Today’s blip is the Christmas tree on the Stroke ward.
