Day 4 in the hospital
This is a late posting and the photo was taken late
After another good night’s sleep at home, Mr MacD dropped me at the hospital at 10am, went off to do a couple of chores, then returned by bus around midday. It was a very wet, very windy day, so it wasn’t a hardship to be inside.
My daughter and son-in-law came to visit. It was a big decision to come, as L has not long finished chemo treatment so her immune system is very depleted. However, she is the eldest grandchild and particularly close to Mum, so it had been worrying her that she hadn’t yet visited. She got a big smile, an “I love you” and a kiss blown to her, so Mum was obviously very pleased to see her.
The doctors came to check on Mum, but will wait until Monday to see how Mum has fared over the weekend, before giving any indication of what her prognosis might be. After the doctors and daughter and son-in-law had left, brother and sister decided it was time for them to go home to rest, shower, eat and have a good night’s sleep, leaving MrMacD and me in charge. It’s not an onerous task, but can be time-consuming. I tried to give Mum sips of water but it went down the wrong way, causing her to cough badly. After that I asked the nurse to do it, which he did, but after he’d left Mum started coughing again, so it obviously wasn’t just my technique. The nurse came back later and offered to give her some custard, but Mum wasn’t keen on that. I spent quite a bit of time trying to talk to Mum, but it was difficult to make out her words. Personally, I don’t think she’s as good as she was yesterday. She’s been sleeping more and her words aren’t as clear. One thing that is clear is that she wants to get up and go for a walk. It’s heart-breaking to have to tell her that that’s not possible as she’s paralysed on her left side. I’m not sure if Mum really understands.
We’d brought food in with us that we could heat in the microwave. After our meal we watched The Repair Shop and Good With Wood on MrMacD’s iPad before turning in for the night.
Today’s blip is some artwork just outside the Stroke Ward, and the extra is the explanation.
