Stormy but glorious walk into Camara de Lobos.

It was safer to walk without being battered by the winds and there was blue sky too. The waves, however, were still high, to the extent that the Porto Santo ferry remained safely in port in Funchal and all the pretty fishing vessels were stowed high from the sea. I’ve never seen Camara de Lobos so battened against the elements.

Our walk from the end of the No 1 bus route was a delight after the rain and greyness of the last few days.

When we arrived at the new Pestana pousada, the tables and chairs were stacked away and poor Winston was isolated (but still not safe from all the German tourists who were hell bent on selfies.)

We had a marvellous lunch at the Vila do Peixe, overlooking the village. They serve the freshest of fish ( you choose your own and they weigh it there in front of you so no surprises). Accompaniments are lovely and the service is charming.

Back on the bus, in time to watch the Croatia v Brazil game……who knows what’s yet in store !
