road and river

It snowed a little during the night, and since the temperature has not risen above freezing all day, it's hard to know where the snow ends and the frost begins. There is a lot of white. When I went out first thing this morning, I counted 21 blackbirds, 1 fieldfare and 1 dunnock eating the windfall apples. I don't know what they'll eat after that if the ground stays frozen.

I must admit that I really love this kind of weather. I like it most when I'm outdoors, because I can wrap up warm and keep moving. Back in the house it's pretty chilly, except for the kitchen, but when it gets dark, around 4pm, we come indoors and light the fire. We have plenty of wood - see extra :-) It's D's job to split the wood and mine to stack it.

I'm aiming to get my Christmas cards ready to send this weekend - I've done the letter and photos today and will write the cards tomorrow. Hopefully they will arrive before Christmas...

I forgot to say yesterday that in my lunch hour I visited the "Kinder Shop" run by the Cumberland Building Society - Kim works for them and she told me all about it. What a brilliant idea - a shop filled with nice things but no money changes hands. You pick what you want and pay for it by volunteering for a certain number of hours at one of three charities. I chose the Food Train. What a shame that they are only running the shop for a single day..but maybe it will catch on elsewhere.

D is making a curry tonight so I'm off to warm up by the fire.
