The wedding, Day 2 (and the morning after)
Last night was amazing - sounds trite - but no words of mine can do it justice. There will be a lot of sore heads this morning.
Very briefly - the evening kicked off with a dance competition between the girls and boys. No contest - the girls had practiced and it showed. And then some live music.
Anniemay and I are first up. We do Shangri La by Mark Knopfler. It sums up Dan and Varnika’s new life here perfectly. Anniemay plays an egg (a percussion instrument and much harder than it might sound).
Then a request from some of Dan’s friends from Milton Keynes.. They remember the old band I used to play in with my friend Neil and call out for ‘Get Back’. We used to do a blue grass version which always went down well at local festivals. A lady in the audience joins us playing the spoons (that’s right - the rhythm section comprises egg and spoons) with Varnika’s brother on bass.
An ex-pat from the Colarado plays a couple of mandolin tunes and then the stars of the show - Varnika and her brother. They are amazing - fabulous musicians and beautiful voices.
The evening finishes with a last dance from Dan and Varnika. We didn’t know Dan could dance like this. His years of yoga training have enabled him to do some amazing lifts and it would easily have scored four 10s on Strictly. Even from Craig.
It takes about half-an-hour to say goodbye. No one wants the evening to end. Final hugs from Varnika’s family and we head off for our taxi.
The actually wedding ceremony doesn’t start until 4.00 pm this afternoon so we spend the morning relaxing by the pool. And wondering what's next.
