A Proper Photographer
A highlight of Oxford Artweek is that the industrial warehouse behind our house turns out to be a workshop and large display area for... grand pianos. So that explains the lovely music which wafts into our garden on summer evenings: it's not often you meet new neighbours and encourage them to keep up the noise!
And next door was another find, an impressive array of creations and artworks in Magdalen Road Studios. My highlight was Martin Bardell, who welcomed me into his studio and really got me thinking about photography is a very different way. About as far away as you'll get from my daily snaps, he can spend months creating photographic artworks, with sets, actors and lighting rigs all to achieve one final image. I wonder if even the most dedicated of blippers would go to such lengths for their art?
