Isochrones
Our son M told us about the website chronotrains.com. I liked the site, so I thought I share it with you.
The website shows you how far you can travel by train in 1,2,3,4 or 5 hours from nearly all railway stations in Europe. You click on a station (or just move your mouse over it) and you see the isochrones immediately.
I thought it interesting to see how far for instance you can travel from Frankfurt, compared to other cities. I copied the isochrones of Edinburgh into the map.
Or take Portugal: you can't get out of this little country, starting in Lisboa, within 5 hours, except a very small number of stations in Spain.
PS: if you prefer German/French/Spanish, just add /de or /fr or /se to the url.
