Exit stage left

Needles and pins

My sewing box is strangely depleted. I had to make some costume adjustments today to make then more quick change friendly. The unfinished edges were making me twitchy. I know it's a costume. I know it only has to last a week. But they still make me twitchy. I fought it. Laziness will out. But then I noticed. Pinking shears gone, needle threader gone, seam unpicker gone. Who knows what else. I think my box must have got mixed up with Mam's at some point. I think the last time I did any sewing for a show was when I was lived up North and did all the sewing on her sewing machine.

Pressing headscarves and housecoats through a tea towel and then pressing mud into some trousers. It can mean only one thing - show week :-).

What was meant to be a gentle sewing day ended a little more manically. Or, more accurately, it will end....

Costume ironing, sewing alterations, impromptu shopping and lunch out (K decided he needed new shoes - now), more sewing, food shopping, realizing I'd done the first couple of tasks in the wrong order, ironing K's shirt for the week, cooking, washing up, making my lunch and dinner for tomorrow and then hiding the grey in my hair. The chemicals are doing they're business as I type. Wash out the dye, dry hair, sleep.

If that sound stressful, it wasn't*. It was all rather pleasant. Most of the jobs could be done on the sofa so I caught most of the Giro and the FA Cup (Go Wigan!). I just hadn't allowed for the shopping trip or for me making a teeny error cutting the elastic for my slippers. Unfortunately, I'd already attached one side. Still, if the time it took to unpick is any indication, it's not going to fail on stage.

Tomorrow I shall be in the theatre for a minimum of 13 hours. I love my life.

Vx

I think this needs rearranging but my timer is done. Gotta dash.

* Well except for the last hour when I thought I was going to run out of time.
