So Proud

I am so proud. She is so proud. I almost cried with pride this morning. Not even totally back on full steam after scarlet fever, Katie was still insistent that she compete in her first running event. She woke quite early and put on her chosen running kit immediately - including her Team GB tshirt. She was rather proud of the number pinned to her chest and of her first ever french plait. She chatted all the way there about her big running and how she was going to go fast with the big boys and girls.

She was a bit overwhelmed when we first arrived at the start venue - it was the gathering point for the main "grown up" race too so it was very busy. We found some people we knew so that was a nice distraction. She was very unimpressed with a large costumed "bear" (beaver) that was wandering round. She posed at the start line for a few photos for me. And before long, it was starting time. She wasnt impressed to run past the beaver who was waving, but after that smiled and laughed the whole of the 2km. She said just twice "my feet are tired" but chat of ice creams after kept her going. I was sooo proud of her. She ran up each of the three little hills, she jumped into the sand-filled pot holes giggling. She ran when 6,7,8 year olds were stopping. She even ran past 4 13 year olds. She must have felt like she was going quite fast, as I was having to do a reasonable jog and we didnt drop pace at all. She wanted a cuddle as she went past "the bear" on the way to the finish, but again carried on running to the finish. She got her medal, a big bar of chocolate and water, then laughed to see the bear laid on the floor being exhausted. Sooo proud of her!! And she's said she'd like to do it again with Mummy. Which is very fine with Mummy!

We went then to quite near the start of the adult race as people we know were running in it so I wanted to see them/take them so photos. We saw her uncle who gave us a big grin and a wave when he saw us. We then went off and found ourselves a second spot to watch the rest of the runners come through, before we headed to the town centre to watch them coming in to the finish. Her uncle even managed a (slightly less enthused!) wave as he saw us that time.

We had a lovely lunch with Tracy & John, plus the ever increasing Jelly baby belly, who we today told Katie about. Katie was full of it. She skipped and bounced at every opportunity. Her and Tracy had a game of hide and seek in the family area. Lots of fun. Now home for a lazy evening I suspect!!
