Bruges - day 2

It rained, and rained. We dripped and dripped and we’re soaked.

It didn’t matter. Bruges has a truly magical feeling and there is so much to see. But, well maybe leave the open boat trip for another day.

At the end of our morning tour, with an excellent local guide, we went to the Brewery (which we’d seen on the tour) and had some more of their delicious local beer, Zot.

I’m not a beer drinker, and neither are two of my friends, but this local brew is fabulous. We also tried the stunningly good beef stew - with chips of course.

Refreshed but not dried, we headed off to see Michelangelo’s Madonna and Child.  It’s the only sculpture outside Italy, we were told. This magnificent sculpture has been stolen twice - once by Napoleon and then again by Hitler. It’s safely home and for me was a highlight.

This is a fabulous place at any time of year, but it’s so special at Christmas.

Extra: the lunch.
