Just the best!
A horrendous night with Oscar - I locked him in the attic with me and he was restless all night! I kept waking up to him scratching at the door, barking and howling! He so wanted to go down and see my sister and Milkshake! Bad dog! I didn't want to let him out as sister gets up in the night and I didn't want him barging into her bedroom to find Milkshake!
We were going to Cotehele today, but I happened to see a post on Facebook about Buckland Abbey and decided to go there to see their barn! So pleased we went! The barn was lovely - had to keep Oscar from peeing on the trees and diving in when a birdcall came out from the speakers behind some of the trees! My sister went round the house whilst we waited outside - I told her to take photos. Well once I saw them I had to go and see the decorations for myself and of course take photos! All the decorations were made from fabric - and the pole covered in felt decorations depicting the seasons was just phenomenal! I loved the owl at the top! It's all about the owls this year it seems - I have been hearing them at night too these last few weeks! All the decorations, the swan and cakes, were made from fabric by the Costume department. What a talented, creative team! There was an amazing collection of wreaths too - too many to photograph as I didn't want to leave sister and Oscar too long - he was tied to the bench and had been so well behaved even though there were lots of families with children - children usually freak him out but he was fine! He was admired by so many people wanting to know what breed he was - he loved all the attention as usual! AsI had been waiting for my sister I spoke to a woman who worked at the Abbey, she really loved Oscar! She said they were allowing dogs in the grounds and cafe to encourage more people with dogs - excellent idea! We met her again in the glass shop and she gave him two bits of sausage from her sandwich! He didn't want to leave the shop! Good job sister bought me a small glass wreath!
Once home it was a quick lunch of poached eggs on smashed avocado on toast with a drizzle of balsamic glaze! Then we headed out to do the Christmas shop - we had made a list and kept to it and were in and out in no time! We decided to do Tescos instead of Waitrose and we got lots of lovely things and only had one person ahead of us at the checkout!
In the eve we had one of the meals from my Gousto Box. Oh my was it ever good! It was a baked camembert Pithivier pie with garlic and rosemary roast potatoes and green beans with butter toasted walnuts in balsamic vinegar! The camembert had chopped garlic, cranberry sauce and walnuts on top before being encased in puff pastry. I had to score the pastry from the centre down in curve all the way round. It came out the oven looking spectacular and when cut in half the cheese and cranberries and walnuts oozed out!
The meal just made the day complete! We both feel very festive now!
