Homeward Bound

The Swiss family left this afternoon in the rain, back to lives busy with more social events, work, and things we aren’t a part of, as we live our retired lives of relative relaxation. The house is quiet and the cats are checking out their usual haunts. Every year it feels like a more intensive and precious time together. Our American family has managed to regroup in Denver travelling from Iowa by car in that awful weather. We are so relieved they are all safe now. The pull of family at Christmas seems stronger this year after the Covid years and the instability of what feels like a world on tenterhooks.
