Gallery Of Kings

We were up early to finish packing and tidying – why does it always seem that you have so much more stuff when you leave a holiday cottage?  We were out by 10am and were heading north to Lincoln.  The weather deteriorated late morning and it was soon raining.  The traffic was very slow moving and after a while we decided to stop off for lunch somewhere, we just weren’t very sure where to go.  I remembered a sign for a windmill when we were driving down, so we decided that we would look out for that, though couldn’t quite remember where it was.  The windmill was in Heckington .  We drove to it and had our picnic.  I think we all rather fancied the tea room, but we had a picnic, so we ate it – in the car, as it was raining.  This is a much more normal British holiday pursuit!

TT and I went into the visitor centre for a look around and were persuaded to buy tickets to visit the windmill.  We felt like Windy Miller!  It was all very interesting and we left with some flour and some oats.  Of more interest to TT though was the brewery  - so we paid that a visit too, and a few more purchases were made.  We were then on our way again to Lincoln.  After chilling out for a little while, TT and I went out for a  wander.  We walked up to the cathedral and went in for a look – and it was free, because it was after 4pm.  There was a choir rehearsing, so it was all very pleasant as we wandered around.    We then continued our wander with a view to finding somewhere for tea.  We booked a table at an Indian restaurant and went back to the hotel.

We dragged BB out for tea and we all enjoyed our meal.  Later we made our way back to the hotel, all sated and weary.

The late afternoon sun was shining on the gallery of kings at Lincoln cathedral.  The windmill is in the extra.
