The Humber Bridge
We all slept late. We blamed the fact that the hotel had blackout curtains and aircon, which allowed for a great night’s sleep. We eventually got down to breakfast, but must have been around the last there. Luckily, there was still plenty left. We then packed up and checked out and went for a wander round Lincoln. We had no plan in mind, but ended up wandering along the Bayford Quay area and then up to the Castle/Cathedral are again. It was a 1940’s weekend up the hill and there were lots of great shop window displays and people dressed up from that era. There was also some traditional games for kids and some lindy hop dancing – which we stood and watched for a while. We left once the singing started – in the style of Vera Lynn.
We made our way down the hill, looking for a suitable lunch spot, but most seemed to be full. In the end we bought some sandwiches and took them with us, stopping for a picnic once we were on the road again. Our destination was York, via the Humber Bridge. We stopped for lunch before we got to the bridge. TT spent his early years in Hull, but had never been over the bridge, so was very excited about this journey. We stopped in Barton upon Humber to view the bridge. I couldn’t believe how many people were doing the same – but maybe they were just out for a Saturday afternoon walk. We then drove over the bridge and carried on our way to TT’s mum in York. When we got there BB realised that he had left all his wound dressing materials in the hotel in Lincoln!!!!!!! TT and I left him with his Grandma and headed into town to the chemist to see what we could get. We bought what we could (knowing full well it was not ideal – but the best we could do, until we got home and could go to the hospital), and then grabbed a cheeky pint – which turned into two cheeky pints by the river.
Grandma sent out a search text to find out what had happened to us. We got home just as she was serving up tea. We had a lovely evening chatting and catching up and we all had a reasonably early night.
This is TT taking a picture of the Humber Bridge! The extra is in Lincoln.
