Velvet Shanks and a dilemma
Walked the spaniel over to the Warburg nature reserve this morning and came across various fungi including these mature Velvet Shanks. I thought their orange colouring was nicely set off by the green moss.
We don't know how long we will be living here so I face the dilemma of whether or not to grow sweet peas. My father always said sweet peas wouldn't grow on the sandy soil here. Anyway I've decided to go for it, but on a very limited scale - just twenty seed sown today. I'm trying two Spencer types that I haven't grown before. They are Apricot Sprite, which is orange, and Wild Swan which is a white. Ten years ago I would have been sowing two or three hundred seed!
