A grand day out
New Year's Day: the sun shone, there was little wind and Richard and I decided to go over to the North Lincolnshire coast, catching up on a trip that we originally planned to do in early December.
There's a Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Donna Nook, with a large colony of seals. They pup during December, and just now the last few youngsters are getting ready to head out to sea. In many cases their mothers have already gone. We thought we might have left it too late to see much, but in fact we had a lovely walk with many good sightings.
This pup must be one of the latest, still cream-coloured, and still with his or her mum. There's a slightly wider view in the extra. Needless to say, several hundred other shots are waiting to be sifted and sorted. More may appear in collages in the next day or two :-)

This stretch of coast has a military firing range as well as a nature reserve, so the juxtaposition is interesting, to put it mildly.
Hope you've all had a peaceful New Year's Day, and that the coming year will go as well as possible.
