Emergency Escape Hatchet

We found this while clearing out a cupboard at his dads house.

Hubby's dad was a Test Pilot and the story goes that a military plane possibly s Spitfire or Wellington Bomber crashed at the airport and this axe was salvaged from the wreckage.

It is quite large sitting on A3 size paper, very heavy with a hard rubber handle tested to 20,000 volts.

I have heard quite a few wartime stories this last few weeks because that is the generation that has ended. They saw a different life to the one I was brought up with, I sure do admire them.
