Charles II
A little while ago I posted a photo of a small statue in Worcester's Corn Market. There are four statues in the area, this is one of the others, King Charles II. He is in disguise as he is beginning his escape from Worcester, his troops having just lost the final battle of the English Civil War. Just around the corner is the pub The King Charles House, reported to be the place the King spent his last night in Worcester before possibly sneaking out the back door and out into Corn Market via the passageway under the sign No 1 Court and fleeing from Cromwell.
The theme for today's Mono Monday hosted by Skeena is Old and/or New. Well the building behind the statue which used to be a house dates back to 1577, so that's pretty Old. The statue, although depicting the King in 1651, is comparatively New being erected in 2016. So Old and New!
