Overflow

A lovely day today with sunshine and blue skies - we haven't seen the sun for a while.

A lot of people in the village, brought out by the Bank Holiday and the good weather, and mostly heading up to High Cup Nick.

We went across to Wet Sleddale this afternoon, as we thought there would be lots of water in the reservoir - there was. The excess water cascading over the edge is quite something to see.

The reservoir, which was created by a dam across the Sleddale Beck, was completed in 1966 and provides water for Manchester. The Beck emerges from the reservoir as the River Lowther into which the excess water pours (see map)
