Ooer missus
I was searching for the Christmas lights in Carcassonne ... they have switched them all off already. So here are the most striking illuminations in the place Carnot. If you want something more family friendly, see the extra of the dim lighting that was available where I was expecting a dazzling display. Even the street lights were rationed.
We were at the cinema again! This time to see The Banshees of Inisherin. Interestingly enough, the only slightly negative feedback I've had on this film was from Irish friend Shay, who is about our age and was brought up in very rural west Ireland in the 1950s. "Nobody would have been able to afford to go to the pub every day!" he scoffed. "It was only for special occasions." In which case an island like Inisherin probably couldn't have sustained a pub at all. Of course the story wouldn't work without the pub. But with this in mind I couldn't help noticing what an extensive wardrobe Padraig and Siobhan had. Especially Siobhan, she wore a different outfit every time she went out. They only had two cows, how could they afford all this, plus a very handsome pony to pull the cart? And a gorgeous donkey!
That said, McDonagh's Three Billboards... was very implausible as well, and that didn't stop it being a brilliant film. Banshees had gorgeous scenery and compelling acting, even if the main characters were completely mad (clear allegory for civil war and ancient grievances). So we were glad to see it.
Home in time for pizza and leftover wine!
