A weld had snapped on the grid that sits in our grill pan, meaning it was quite unstable if you were trying to grill anything. Having only bought it a few months ago to replace the original - which had lost most of its chrome - I was loath to order another one, especially at £30 a pop!
My mate Dan is a metal fabricator par excellence and said he could probably tack it for me if I popped up to his workshop. It did seem a bit of overkill using a powerful MIG welder to do the job, but it worked perfectly and grilling stability is now restored.
On the Panto front, several scenes and songs have now been cut from the show in an attempt to get it finished before midnight. I’m not affected personally - I did only have ten lines in total in Act 1 after all - but there were varying degrees of joy/sadness from the rest of the cast, depending on how wedded they were to the bits that have been cut.
There was some good news on the acting front. I got a phone call from the director of “Blackadder” to say I’d got the part of Lord Melchett - result! Probably got it more on the basis that I’d worked with her a couple of months back, rather than the croaky audition pieces I did the other night, but a part is a part, however you get it!
Looking forward to starting that on Monday but, for now, there is a weekend’s worth of pantomime to get through. Let’s see how long the show runs tonight. Will there be further cuts or might we have to put bits back in…
