Back to an old favourite
We had thought of taking a walk outside Edinburgh today, but then of course remembered that we had been outside Edinburgh for more than three weeks.... So no need or desire to get in the car, but instead to walk in Edinburgh (well, our bit of it, at least). After an early visit to the supermarket, we did a loop through Victoria Park, down to Newhaven Harbour (which has featured regularly in my blips) and then - for the first time in a very long time - around the back along the sea wall out to the lighthouse. Thereafter we cut through to the Asda, and then along Melrose Drive and past the Scottish Government on the landward side making for the Shore area in order to score some coffees and something to eat. The Williams and Johnson place by the Customs House was too busy, so we tried the Clock Cafe, a bit of a Leith institution, I think, where we'd never been before. Two coffees and excellent two bacon rolls came to less than £11. Add in a couple of cakes we bought at Relish to enjoy when we got home, it all only came to about £1 more than we had paid for indifferent stuff during the dreaded visit to House of Bruar.
That was perhaps more steps than I had been expecting for the day, so I didn't bother going on the bike this afternoon, but rather settled down to finish off the reading and preparation task that I need to have ready by tomorrow morning. All sorted.
Mr A cooked a mutton shank for dinner, which we got from the Peelham Farm stall at the market. It was delicious, slow cooked with shallots, mushrooms and peppers in a red wine and tomato sludge, served up with some brown rice. I don't think I have ever had mutton shank before.
