The World's Richest Man
Andrew Carnegie, who at the time was said to be the richest man in the world funded the building of Fraserburgh Library - along with 659 others in the UK and Ireland.
Carnegie was born in Dunfermline in 1835 - he emigrated to America where, though he began work as a bobbin boy in a cotton factory, eventually led the growth of the steel industry. He amassed a huge fortune which he used to finance philanthropic projects.
Fraserburgh Library was opened on 23rd October by Alexander Fraser - 19th Lord Saltoun but is currently closed due to refurbishment and a glitch with the heating system.
