Ease, acceptance
Jo Ann told me today that for most of the past four years she has been working 20-hour days. Since she lost her campaign for re-election, she has had a vacation in Maui, time to read and rest, and time to catch up on old friendships. Her face has softened and her body has relaxed. Maybe it is really a great thing for her, personally, that she lost that election. She made some wonderful changes to Portland’s government during her four years: changes that are saving lives. She has been involved in public service since she was in her late twenties. Now, at 65, she can ease up a bit and take care of herself. I think the ease looks great on her.
