Warsaw
Ceridwen has supplied this shot of the Warsaw uprising monument to add to our online photograph album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series). Thank you Ceridwen!
Lorna writes a lot about Warsaw at the start of her war diary. The mentions fall across 14 diary entries that chart the fall of the city to the Germans in September 1939. In the last of these, on 30th September 1939, Lorna notes that the German occupation will start the following day. She also refers back to this event in her war diary entry of 13th March 1940.
You can follow the audio version of Lorna's account of the Fall of Warsaw in the first two episodes of the Diary of the war podcast series, in which Lorna is played by her great-great niece actress Bethany Ray: Episode 1 is here; Episode 2 is here. The later mention of Warsaw in March 1940 features in Episode 4.
