Ooh! Look what I found!

This image is something of an emergency blip. It's the kind of drawing I'm currently making for a living. This is the flat roof of a school somewhere and it's my job to add insulation to the roof to improve the condition of the building. The insulation is tapered to help rainwater find the correct exits. The section through the insulation shown below the plan is extremely exaggerated, you wouldn't see the gradient with the naked eye as it has a fall of 1 in 60.

This kind of work requires a lot of concentration so I really enjoy the mindless banter going on loudly all around me at work. Oh yes indeed.

We had a new recruit start work yesterday, an engineer. I wasn't introduced to him. He went out at lunchtime and never returned. We were a little concerned for his well-being, but mostly assumed that half a day had been enough to put him off.

Sure enough, an email was received from him today with a stinging criticism of our senior management. Their reaction was to be glad they found out what he was like before “wasting time training him up”. They won't accept any blame, will not learn from their mistakes, and can't understand why we're always so short of engineers.
