Drying out

This is not for kerbside recycling, they will not take glass from homes, so what's it's purpose? Is it really just showing off to the neighbours what (and how much) you've been drinking over the festive period? Had I seen other displays in the same street I would have understood it to be neighbourly fun, but I didn't. It is surely some kind of signalling, but I'm not sure what message is intended. It has fairy lights and everything!
