The little chapel
I have been intrigued by this building for months.
It is by the car park in Birstall, where we park when visiting the market every Thursday morning.
So pleased that our fishman is back from his Christmas/ New Year break.
So salmon fish cakes bought for tonight’s meal, and cod for tomorrow’s curry.
Then when I got home had a look on Google to find out the history of the building which had a date over the door 1855.
I thought it had been a school. Well nearly right. It was built as a Sunday School. Built for an independent congregation. A church was planned for on the adjacent land, but did not materialise and so the building became the Salem Congregational Church until it closed in 1909. It has now been converted into apartments, but has still kept it’s character.
Farm shopping and then lunch. Unfortunately their forced rhubarb isn’t ready yet.
We throughly enjoyed the Hairy Bikers last night. Lovely to see our local Indian restaurant Prashad. I doubt we will be able to get a table now. Also interesting to see the young guys who are growing mushrooms in their mum’s garage. They too will be inundated with orders.
Another awful day. Wet and now strong winds too. At least the reservoirs are full, just hope there are no floods.
