Shoddy

I have been in Ossett today. Playing last post and reveille at the local war memorial and again in the town hall opening the south and West Yorkshire Royal British Legion county conference. The outdoor one stayed dry but my goodness it was blustery!

This is the town’s ‘coat of arms’ which is above the stage flanked by two beautiful white roses inside the town hall.

The motto says Inutile utile ex arte, which google tells me means useless things made useful by art. What a fantastic motto, and it all relates apparently to the fact that Ossett was one of the largest shoddy tradings towns in the country. Those were the days, when it wasn’t trendy to be zero waste, just second nature.

Hope my performances weren’t shoddy!
