Mid Lothian Walk

It was the first walk of the year for our walking group.  We met at New Battle Abbey College Campus to start our walk.  We were surprised when 26 people turned up, I think New Years resolutions had their part to play!
The walk took us on a circular walk along many ancient woodland paths, beside fields and a very full  South Esk River.  The weather wasn't too bad!
The last part of the walk took us round into the back of the campus, where there is a beautiful knot garden and stately home dating from the 17th century.  The house is formed around the original 12th century Abbey.  Newbattle was gifted to the Nation as a college in the 1930's.
There was a visit to the pub to finish.
