Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's Ladder is a short cut, rabbit run, for civil servants dashing between St Andrew's House and Parliament. If you go down the other way it's a short cut to City of Edinburgh Council and you come out through this little arch which has the name 'Jacob's Ladder' aptly hung overhead. Of course the meaning to Jacob's Ladder is "stairway to heaven" so either civil servants are cherubs hanging out with Saint Andrew or we could be humming along to Led Zeppelin (or panting as you climb back up) - apparently the words of the song are about "a women getting everyone she wanted all the time, without giving anything back. " Some of us may ponder on that as we next climb back up the stairs after being in Parliament.
