Kasa-obake

According to the description this is a model of kasa-obaka which is a paper umbrella spirit. In Japanese folk culture Tsukomogami (the spirits of objects ) will come back to give people the heebie geebies if they were carelessly used. It's a scary thought, imagine all the laptops, toasters and kettles jumping out on you.

This was spotted in an exhibit focused on repair. Part of the exhibition space was given over to repairing broken electrical things. It was really popular. I love the subversive feeling of repair. There was some examples of kintsugi repair which turns the repair of a flaw into a creative act.
