I first headed south but changed my mind, turned around and drove towards Grasmere. I was lucky there was a large parking space in the layby at Penny Rock. From there a walk around the shore to the boathouse on the west side of the lake.

I’ve photographed this many times but in recent years it became very overgrown and the roof was collapsing. It was good to read last year that work to restore it had started.

Instead of posting one of the classic views of the lake I’ve chosen a work in progress shot. There’s metal fencing around the site but I was able to get my phone through the gaps.
