A bit of culture
We didn’t have any musical acts booked until tonight so after a hearty breakfast in the hotel we headed out to catch the bus to Pollock park to visit the Burrell collection. The blip is of me trying to look like the carved angel as per the instructions on the display case!
We spent a happy few hours looking round the various exhibits, I found the tapestry and lace making fascinating. Reading the story of the family behind the collections was interesting but sad as the only daughter of Sir William Burrell (the younger) was too much of a wild child for her family to cope with so was ostracised and died penniless whilst her parents and aunts and uncles had amassed a huge collection of artefacts which were gifted to the city of Glasgow. (I may be paraphrasing a lot and reading between the lives!)
Time for a quiet hour back at the hotel to catch up on journals before heading back to the Drygate brewery again for some dinner before the evening’s entertainment. We had just sat down when my friend Linda had to head back to
the hotel as she wasn’t feeling too good. She insisted we stay so we saw her off in a taxi and had dinner.
Tonight’s musical entertainment were two American acts - Lizzie No who was very engaging and tried Irn Bru on stage for the first time (traditional Scottish soft drink) before regaling us with some great banter and original song’s accompanying herself with guitar and harp though not simultaneously.
The main act were a folk band from Astoria in Oregon called the Hackles, a talented 3 piece who sang unaccompanied and played fiddle, guitar and clarinet. They also were very engaging and shared wee stories including the fact that their songs started out with names like Steve, Angela and various others.
A less chilly walk back to the hotel and just about to head to bed. Tomorrow beckons with more music and a foodie experience to come.
