Frieda's quilting journal
A friend and I left home early this morning en route to the Loch Lomond Quilt Show where we knew friedaquilter would be exhibiting among others. The exhibition is unusual as it is not held in one big hall but instead, staged in a number of church venues in Dumbarton, Renton and Loch Lomond so a car - and a TomTom - were essential. The weather was glorious and the run down was magnificent with the sunlit hills providing a fabulous backdrop. We found Frieda very easily and it was wonderful to meet her at last and to see her exquisite journal quilts in reality rather than simply by courtesy of the computer screen. Although I had read Frieda's blogs explaining the process towards the final quilts it was really great to listen to her talking about each one with such enthusiasm and affection. She is a delightful and very talented lady and I was thrilled to have been able to meet her at last. You can see her here with some of the journal quilts behind her, specifically the circular beaded one on the left which heads up her blog. While at the same venue we also met another blipper/quilter gilliantextiles and I understand Frieda met up with a few others during the day too - it is just a shame that we did not all land at the same time and have a glorious blipmeet. Maybe we should be more organised next year.
We went to most of the other venues and the quality and variety of quilts was amazing and we just loved the scene which has been blipped by purpleone - as you entered this particular church the first thing that met your eyes was a sea of quilts! They were all draped over the pews and i have seriously never seen such a wonderful selection of quilts guaranteed to inspire budding quilters, being highly achievable and yet superb. Quite often in these shows you come across magnificent pieces of work which are totally daunting to new quilters but today we found a fabulous mixture of both. We also loved the selection of stunning miniature quilts - just 9" by 9" - which goes to prove that even the tiniest scrap of fabric can be turned into something beautiful.
My dogs were ecstatic when i eventually arrived home - a friend had kindly let them out a couple of times during the day for a comfort break - and so the moment I arrived home it was into my walking gear and off to the hills for a brisk walk in the evening's sunshine. What a glorious and inspirational day it has been.
