Joining in

Bean joined in at our Wednesday group for perhaps the first time ever today :) We had the second session of our "solar system" activity, today painting the Sun and also Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn. I'm so proud of him. Even with so many people in the room he was happy to go straight in, get involved, get his Sun painted (in the end he decided it was best if he held the balloon while I painted it!), and then willingly paint the next three planets. This orange one is Jupiter (I think!). I LOVED painting Saturn with him, with its ring. He has done such a fab job of it, with its yellow and brown stripes and silver ring. Our job over the next week is to paint our box black, and next Wednesday we will assemble our Solar System displays. I'm really impressed. I must take time next week to look at all the posters about the different planets with him.

We had a guest come along to talk about the planets in our Solar System, and went outside for a group activity to look at just how big our Solar System was. Starting from the Sun, he paced out where each planet was in relation to the sun - Neptune was halfway across the carpark and we had the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars waving at her from the start of the playground. Then we had an attempt at looking at the way the planets revolve around the sun. All very clever and enough detail to give everyone a pretty good overview of the Solar System, with lots of interesting snippets about each planet.
