Super Supper Evening
We have always tried to come down to celebrate Grace’s birthday ahead of the date in February so she can then enjoy her birthday with friends,
One of Grace’s neighbours makes authentic Indian food which we’ve had as a takeaway before but tonight she was having a supper club evening at ‘Gather’, a cafe in the next village of Batheaston. We had lunch here back in October
It was fabulous, you can see the main course here of chicken curry and Gujurati Daal. We had a starter of Khaman Dhokla, a savoury sponge served with apple and coriander chutney and a desert of Gulab Jumun, an Indian doughnut soaked in saffron and rose water syrup served with pistachio ice cream. A perfect pre birthday treat.
We had a chat with the lady who provided it and also the owner of the cafe who asked about our accents. Turned out she originated from Ilkley (just over the moor from us back home in Yorkshire) and she said hearing our accents made her feel quite sad.
We had a mainly quiet day at home apart from Grace and I popping into town late afternoon for a couple of hours. It’s been a really cold and grey day, no sparkly frost or bright sky, just bleak, so John lit the fire for a cosy afternoon in. Extra
That and the good warming food this evening have kept the January cold at bay.
Picture of the pudding added to the extras, unfortunately my shot of the starter was blurred .
