Roding Valley Lake
A very enjoyable day today, starting with an hour’s bird watching for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch whilst eating my breakfast on a tray on my lap, sitting on a sofa looking out over the back garden. After that we logged in to the communion service at our church.
Later on we had a visit from Son #2 and our middle granddaughter, L, on their way back from Pizza Express, where L had been to a party and made her own pizza! After lunch we drove to Roding Valley Meadows for a walk around the lake. It was a rather grey day, not much colour, but it was great to be out.
The clouds that gather round the setting sun
Do take a sober colouring from an eye
That hath kept watch o'er man's mortality;
Another race hath been, and other palms are won.
Thanks to the human heart by which we live,
Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears,
To me the meanest flower that blows can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears.
Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Childhood by William Wordsworth
