Murmuration

Today's the day ...................... to gather

We took our time coming home from our visit to see friends yesterday - and called in at Castle Douglas to get a few things from the supermarket, late afternoon on the way.

Imagine my surprise when I just happened to look up, to see a full-blown starling murmuration going on in the sky above the car park?!  There were thousands of birds, wheeling in from all directions and joining up to form a huge sinuous cloud.  And they were making quite a noise about it all - it was quite a sight.

I really can't imagine that Wilco or the Co-op stores would hold the same sort of attraction as a nice reedbed down on the estuary as a potential overnight roosting site?  Although, I have watched starlings down south in Brighton, when they ended up roosting under the pier - so who knows?

Or maybe, it was just a gathering place before they headed off somewhere more appropriate ......................!
