Sacred Space
Hard but good work training today, covered communicating with teenagers and childhood abuse, both required a sensitivity and respectfulness and a thoughtful understanding of cultural differences. Something about how they explored these things as professionals really impressed me. Rarely when I teach do I come away having not learned a lot in the process.
I grabbed an hour to myself in the city afterwards and called in to this small chapel. My bringing up doesn't really tolerate icons and incense, but this simple modern alter and the smell of the lilies before it helped me still myself and just be. During the communist time this was shut down, but has been restored physically and the gentle ebb and flow of people returning from work, calling in with their bags of shopping or like me "visiting" added to the sense of life and authenticity and it felt like heaven somehow blessed the very air and being of those whose journey passed through.
After a few minutes I plugged in the ear phones and listened to Jan Garabek playing jazz sax over some plainsong. Simply, good....very good and an interesting counterpoint to the Foo Fighters I played during the teaching session earlier.
Elsewhere in my world I think I've eaten too much chocolate
