Slow Down Motion at Matt and Phreds

When we were talking to Paolo between sets, yesterday evening, he mentioned that his drummer Laurie's band, Slow Down Motion, were playing at Matt and Phreds*, tonight, so we decided to go along.

After work, we went from the office and met Hannah for a bite to eat at Thai Kitchen Number Six, before walking up to the Northern Quarter for the gig. (You can just make out Paolo in the bottom right-hand corner of my photo.)

Slow Down Motion is usually a drum and guitar duet, playing along with loops and electronics, but this evening they were joined by a violinist, and it worked really well. It occurred to me that the band is the same configuration as Dirty Three, but the results couldn't be more different: there is none of the wildness or visceral feel of the Dirty Three, indeed it felt like a more 'technical' experience, but I really enjoyed it.
