Small things

Today there was some small things to do.

Our lace blanket on the bed has lasted well for a couple decades. Only the knots of thread get opened now and then. The blanket is very big and difficult to wash, it might also get totally broken if washing was tried. In this spot in the picture there was a big hole, the thread had unraveled, I couldn't find the end of the other thread, so had to fix it with the one. It will last at least for a while longer.

I also wanted to make a card to one of my many aunts who will be 70 tomorrow, the Extra shows the stuff.

A moment ago the soup for the rest of the weekdays got ready, although I wasn't very sure about what I was doing. But succeeded:)

Today is the Sami National Day. As you see we here are aware of many things to celebrate or pay attention;) This day in the year 1917, the Sami people of the Nordic countries began mutual cooperation that crossed state borders.

The Sámi are a linguistically Finno-Ugric indigenous people living mainly in the northern parts of Fennoscandia. The area inhabited by the Sámi people is called Sámiland. It consists of the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland, as well as the Kola Peninsula belonging to Russia. In Finland there are approximately 10 000 Sámi.

The Sámi are the only indigenous people in the European Union, so they have e.g. "the right to maintain and develop one's own language and culture" that has caused controversies also in Finland.

As a child I got a the Sámi dress from my schoolmate who was born and  lived in Lapland, but wasn't actually Sami. The Sami dress is the most visible of the Sámi's national emblems.

Tomorrow is an usual weekday, no celebrations:)
