Me and the good old boys

Last night Gill came to supper. Richard couldn’t come as it was his weekend for having Fred, a young man with Downs and Fred was adamant he wanted to go for pizza. They came to say hello.

After leaving C and D this morning we drove into what we used to call Bandit Country - it was unknown territory to cycle over the other side of the A140 - to have coffee with Nigel and Mary. Clive also came bearing a cake he had made. (Nigel and Clive were colleagues and then friends of mine when I worked there). I managed to have a quick chat with Nigel in the kitchen - he was understandably upset as not only had he developed health issues (including DVT) but also Mary’s mental health has deteriorated. She has psychotic episodes and her memory is worse too. It’s at times like these I wish we didn’t live so far away. Clive is very supportive and Mary has 7 or 8 siblings who sometimes stay with her so that Nigel can go with friends on short cycling holidays.

I had booked a spa day for #2 daughter’s birthday on Friday and today they emailed to cancel it as they have pool issues. I’m going to try to find somewhere else but it won’t be as convenient for the daughters.

Mr C and I have agreed not to embark on Happy Valley tonight - we are too tired after a busy weekend - Carole is full-on with her talking - and we had a 6 hour drive home. We might try Slow Horses which is on Apple - I should be able to get it having just bought a new Mac?
