Safeguarding mothers and babies #India

Everyday approximately 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy or childbirth. 99% of deaths occur in the developing world. Women living in rural areas and in poorer communities are most at risk. Skilled care before, during and after birth saves lives.

IMPACT India's Community Health Initiative programme in rural Maharashtra includes monitoring women during pregnancy.

This mother-to-be is having her weight and height checked as part of a package of care which will ensure that the symptoms of dangerous complications (such as pre-eclampsia) are identified and treated.
